USING SKETCH ENGINE TO ENHANCE THE LEARNING
OF SPECIFIC VOCABULARY IN ENGLISH
FOR ENGINEERING STUDENTS

1. INTRODUCTION
The so-called Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a
relatively current concept. The notion of ICT generally refers to the use
of devices, networking components, and different types of systems cen-
tred on the facilitation of the interaction with the digital world. In other
words, if it is digital, it is ICT. Some of the major components of the
ICTs include data, Internet access, cloud computing, software, hard-
ware, among others. Even more important, the ICTs also encompass the
applications of these components, allowing users to access, store, trans-
mit and even handle and compute information. In addition, the use of
ICTs has drastically changed how university teaching is managed (Hil-
bert & López, 2011) and how English for specific purposes education is
currently developing (García Laborda & Litzler, 2015).
Corpus linguistics compilation and analysis are basically some of the
major advances in methodological implementations of ICT strategies in
the university teaching environment involving language learning (An-
thony, 2013). In general terms, the use of linguistic corpora in the case
of ‘English for specific purposes’ teaching strategies is the order of the
day, since it is a tool that helps us observe and analyse terminological
and syntagmatic units within a concrete textual genre. Thus, the use of
corpus linguistics becomes an essential ICT pedagogical tool
(Tolchinsky, 2014). Hence, it seems to be pertinent and relevant to de-
sign a methodological strategy focused on the compilation and exami-
nation of linguistic corpora aiming at the learning of specific
