RESUMEN
El presente artículo analiza el valor de la cartografía como patrimonio, espe-
cialmente la cartografía relacionada con los descubrimientos del Nuevo Mundo.
Atendiendo sobre todo al objetivo principal de UNESCO en el que se especif‌ica que
hay que promover, proteger y preservar el patrimonio cultural y natural conside-
rado valioso para la humanidad. Este artículo pretende comprobar que la Car-
tografía realizada especialmente en el siglo XVI debe considerarse valiosa por sí
misma y no solo identif‌icada como vehículo para la localización del conjunto de
bienes que conforman el Patrimonio Histórico.

ABSTRACT
This article analyzes the value of cartography as heritage, especially cartog-
raphy related to the discoveries of the New World. Above all, meeting the main
objective of UNESCO in which it is specif‌ied that the cultural and natural heri-
tage considered valuable for humanity must be promoted, protected and preserved.
This article tries to verify that the Cartography carried out especially in the 16th
century should be considered valuable by itself and not only identif‌ied as a vehicle
for locating the set of assets that make up the Historical Heritage.
