EL LINAJE ARMÍLDEZ DE TOLEDO, SIGLOS XI-XIII

RESUMEN
La prosapia Armíldez de Toledo figura idealizada en los nobiliarios modernos
como caballeros mozárabes que quedaron en la ciudad durante la época musulmana. A
pesar de ello, su origen se remonta a la toma de Toledo por Alfonso VI en el año 1085.
Así, el patriarca de la familia será el cortesano Ermenegildo Ruderíquez, cuyo nombre,
tras diversas transformaciones -Ermillo, Ermíldez-, dará lugar al patronímico Armíldez.
Ruderíquez recibió donaciones regias en el área del Pisuerga, aunque el centro de
intereses familiar quedó ligado a Toledo donde su sucesor, Gutierre Ermíldez, ejerció
como alcaide (1119-1131). Asimismo, durante los dos primeros tercios del siglo XII la
familia acumulará heredades en Portugal, Soria, Aranda de Duero y la actual provincia
de Toledo. A finales de dicha centuria y principios de la siguiente, el cabeza de familia,
Pedro Armíldez de Portugal y sus dos cuñados, don Gonzálo Pérez de Torquemada y
don García Pérez de Fuentealmegir, constituirán un núcleo familiar cohesionado,
emparentado con los Lara y beneficiado por la Corte. Los familiares constarán en
numerosos negocios jurídicos concertados en Toledo y alrededores durante el siglo
XIII. Entre ellos destaca el patronato que gozaron sobre la capilla mayor del convento
de la Santísima Trinidad.

ABSTRACT
The Armíldez de Toledo lineage is idealized by the modern nobility as Mozarab
knights that stayed in the city during the Muslim era. Despite of that, its origin roots
back to the siege of Toledo by King Alfonso VI in the year 1085. The patriarch of the
family would be the courtier Ermenegildo Ruderíquez, whose name gave place to the
patronymic Armíldez after several modifications (Ermillo, Ermíldez). Ruderíquez
received royal donations in the Pisuerga area, but the center of family interests remained
linked to Toledo, where his successor, Gutierre Ermíldez, took the role of warden
(1119-1131). Furthermore, during the first two thirds of the 12th Century, the family
would accumulate inheritance in Portugal, Soria, Aranda de Duero and the current
province of Toledo. Towards the end of that century and the beginning of the following
one, the head of the family, Pedro Armíldez de Portugal and his two brothers in law,
Mr. Gonzálo Pérez de Torquemada and Mr. García Pérez de Fuentealmegir, would form
a solid family core linked to the Lara family and benefitted by the Court. The family
members would participate in several family legal businesses in Toledo and its
surroundings along the 13th Century. Amongst them, specially outstanding would be
the patronage that they had over the Main Chapel of the Santísima Trinidad Convent.
