The French Experience Of Reduction Of The Working Duration

Abstract: The article offers a general description of the legal reforms in France which regulate the working time, from their origins in the Popular Front in 1936 to its recovering as a central element in the reforms policy of the “Common Program”, and in the end, in the well-known law of the “35 hours” at the end of the 21st century. The process of reduction of the working time has had a new reading with the conservative majorities and the working model which represents faces nowadays the one which the governing majority in France and the presidence of Sarkozy forecast. The article plans the ambivalence of the results of these reforms and their consequences, in the sense of not considering them as a “panacea” with the employment problems, but it demands its importance not only symbolic but also political in the reconstruction of a system of working relations based on the collective values of solidarity which agree with the international normative plan of the OIT related to the values of justice and equality.
