NOTAS SOBRE LA POLÍTICA RELIGIOSA DE OCTAVIO AUGUSTO

RESUMEN
En 2014 se cumplieron 2000 años del fallecimiento de Octavio Augusto,
fundador del Imperio Romano, y uno de los personajes más trascendentes de la historia.
Octavio puso fin a casi un siglo de guerras civiles en el marco de la República Romana,
y sentó las bases para el período de mayor esplendor de la civilización romana,
presentándose así mismo como restaurador de la antigua res publica, aun cuando las
novedades constitucionales que introdujo condujeron al nuevo sistema político del
Principado.
Nuestro trabajo se centra en analizar cuál fue su actitud con relación a la
religión, pues no puede desconocerse que ésta –como aparece reflejado en Ulpiano- era
parte integrante del ius publicum. Así, trataremos de evidenciar cómo a este respecto,
por un lado, Octavio mantiene, al igual que en otros ámbitos, una política centrada en la
vuelta a los valores y prácticas tradicionales, si bien ello no le impide, por otro lado,
introducir ciertas novedades que posibilitan el asentamiento de nuevos principios, los
cuales constituirán la base para la nueva forma política del Principado.

ABSTRACT
Last year 2014 marked the 2000 year of the death of Octavius Augutus, founder
of the Roman Empire, and one of the most significant characters of History. Octavius
ended nearly a century of civil wars within the Roman Republic, and he laid the
foundation for the period of greatest splendor or roman civilization, presenting himself
as a restorer of old res publica, even if the constitutional developments introduced by
him led to the new political system of the Principate.
Our work is focused on analyzing what was his attitude towards religion,
because it can not be denied that this –as it’s reflected by Ulpianus- was an integral part
of ius publicum. So, we try to show how in this repect, firstly, Octavius maintains as in
other areas, a policy focused on a return to traditional values and practices, although this
doesn’t prevent him, on the other hand, to introduce some developments that make
possible the establishment of new principles, which will be the foundations for the new
political system of the Principate.
