This monograph –written by my admired colleague Dr. Ana Elisabete
FERREIRA– which I have the pleasure of reviewing, is the culmination of a vast
research study that its content coincides, in substance, with her Doctoral
Thesis which was defended on the 13rd of September 2019, at the Portu-
guese Catholic University, Institute of Bioethics, for the degree of Doctor in
Bioethics, under the title “A responsabilidade no vértice das neurociências:
da neuroética ao neurodireito”.
Apart from the rigorous and exhaustive work involved, it is a pleasure
-on a (more) personal level- to sign this book review since it has been
prepared, with a great dedication and tenacity, by a well appreciated young
and committed researcher of the prestigious Centre for Biomedical Law of
the Coimbra University, Faculty of Law, in Portugal, where I was able to carry
out a very productive postdoctoral research stay, and to whom I would like
to express my gratitude for the advice and dedication provided during my
long stay.
Is it noteworthy that Dr. Ana Elisabete FERREIRA is a l ectu rer a nd re searc her
at the Centre for Biomedical Law and collaborating researcher at the Legal
Institute, Faculty of Law, at the University of Coimbra, and she is currently a
