Este artículo trata de abordar el problema de la democracia en Europa con la perspectiva de la sociología de la filosofía y la escritura constitucional. En su obra, Ralf Dahrendorf ha concebido el "recomienzo de la historia" en Europa tras la caída del comunismo como una historia de la libertad personificada en la Societas Erasmiana, formada por intelectuales con una fuerte proyección pública que han sabido resistir las tentaciones del totalitarismo.
